SMSTS refresher course: what it costs and when you must book it

The SMSTS refresher course is two days and costs a median of £287 across the six UK providers that print a price, from £240 to £365, read on 28 October 2026. It renews an SMSTS certificate that is still in date; once the certificate has expired, the full 5-day course is the way back.

When you must book it
SMAS Worksafe's refresher page says SMSTS holders must refresh every five years by passing the refresher, and its 5-day course page gives the certificate five-year validity (SMAS refresher, SMAS 5-day course). CST Training calls the refresher a mandatory renewal every five years (CST Training). Book it before the date on your certificate.
